The term Gingoog originally came from the
word “Hingoog”, which means “Goodluck”, from a Lumad tribe of Manobo who
settled in the area.[1] The word implies good fortune, thus Gingoog City means
the City of Good Luck.
Gingoog is located in the Province of
Misamis Oriental in the Philippines. Situated in Mindanao island, the
second giant of the archipelago of all the landmass of the Philippines. The
city is approximately 122 kilometers east of Cagayan de Oro City and 74
kilometers west of Butuan City. It is bounded on the east by the Municipality
of Magsaysay, Misamis Oriental, the Province of Bukidnon; the Municipality of
Claveria, Misamis Oriental on the south; and on the north by Gingoog Bay. Its
total land area is 744 km².

The Lubi
Lubi Festival cultural presentation
using parts of the coconut palm and other indigenous materials as props and
costumes .
The
Kaliga Festival is an annual Higaonon-based Tableau and Street Dancing
Presentation by the City Tourism Office highlighting Gingoog City's City
Charter Anniversary. It is done every 23rd of July at the People's
Grandstand/Oval with private and public schools as participants.
It is now on its 34th staging and it is being supported by the Department of Tourism-10 and the DepEd-Gingoog City. The street dancing parade will commence at the Pahayahay area and will pass through the city's major roads ending at the People's Grandstand where the final tableau competition will take place. The Kaliga Festival is celebrated to mark the city charter anniversary. Activities during the celebration are street dancing, trade fairs, a civic military parade, and an awarding ceremony for achievers.

Historical
THE OLD CITY HALL
Also known as the "old casa," it is the seat of Gingoog's first government. The building stands opposite Magsaysay Park and Sta. Rita Church.
DAAN-LUNGSOD
Is the site of the first settlement of native Gingoognons. The ruins of the Catholic church built with limestone and corals by the Spanish friars still mark its exact location. Old houses still exist reminiscent of the culture that once existed in the area.
Waterfalls
Tiklas
Falls -is one of the tourist spots in Gingoog City which they
proud off. Tiklas Falls - 120 feet high, with a
30-meter diameter pool.We really like the view of the falls which is in front
of this is the swimming pools which has sinuous water on it. The travel time
from Cagayan de Oro to Gingoog City is 2-3 hours. When you
arrive at the main city of Gingoog City kilometers away you can see the
signboard of Tiklas falls. From the main entrance of Tiklas
falls you need to travel again 9 Kilometers going there and when you
arrive at the main gate you need to walk 350 meters.
LIBON-AWIT FALLS 13 kilometers from Poblacion. Three waterfalls are connected to the same stream:
Kilubag Falls - the major attraction of the three falls.
Bangbang Falls - 70 feet in height, overlooking the marvelous panorama of Gingoog River, more than a kilometer below.
BAKID-BAKID FALLS - 100 feet high; can be reached by jeepney or motorcycle.
MALIBUD FALLS - located within a reforestation area, picnic center; also ideal for retreats and communing with nature.

Getting to Gingoog City
- By Air:
Cagayan
de Oro City airport (approx. 130 kms away) and Butuan City airport (approx. 75
kms away) have daily flights to and from Manila through Philippine Airlines and
Cebu Pacific Air. Both airports also have daily flights to and from Cebu City
through Philippine Airlines, Cebu Pacific Air and Air Philippines. From the
airport, you may take a taxi or jeepney ride to the bus terminal and from
there, different bus lines will take you to Gingoog City.
- By Sea:
- SuperFerry has a 4 times weekly sailing schedule from Cagayan de Oro seaport to and from Manila and 2 times weekly sailing schedule from Butuan (Nasipit seaport) to and from Manila. Both Cagayan de Oro seaport and Butuan (Nasipit seaport) also have nightly sailing schedule to and from Cebu City through a number of different vessels.
- By Land:
- Gingoog City is accessible by land travel to and from Cagayan de Oro City (122 kms) and Butuan City (74 kms) through the Bagong Lipunan Transit, Bachelor Express (aircon & non-aircon buses), Mini Buses, Public Utility Vans and Public Utility Jeepneys.
